Watch the Boston 4th of July Fireworks Live
The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular returns to the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade for its 52nd year on Saturday, July 4, 2026, with Keith Lockhart conducting Lainey Wilson, Chance The Rapper, Trombone Shorty, Megan Hilty, and host Jane Lynch from 7:00 to 9:30 PM ET. We built a Charles River fireworks live cam route so you can watch the Esplanade and the barge launch from any block, even if you can't make it to the river.
WATCH THE FIREWORKS ROUTE โThe Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular draws crowds along both banks of the Charles River for one of the largest annual 4th of July gatherings in the United States, with a national CBS broadcast carrying the show beyond the riverbank. Governor Healey and the Boston Pops confirmed the 2026 lineup features Grammy-winning country star Lainey Wilson, Chance The Rapper, and NOLA icon Trombone Shorty, with a revolutionary-themed drone show running during the 1812 Overture before the fireworks finale. For everyone watching from outside the Oval, our live route bundles MassDOT and regional camera feeds along the river into one screen.
Watch the Charles River From the Best Vantage Points
The barge sits in the Charles between the Longfellow and Mass Ave Bridges, with the Hatch Shell on the Boston side and Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side. The cameras below cover the Esplanade approaches, both bridges, and the cross-river corridor where crowds gather thickest.
Esplanade and Hatch Shell
Live Cameras
Storrow Drive corridor and Charles Street approaches feeding the Hatch Shell Oval, where the Boston Pops concert plays and the fireworks launch directly out front.
Memorial Drive, Cambridge Side
Live Cameras
Memorial Drive closes to vehicle traffic during the event and becomes a continuous pedestrian viewing zone facing the barge. Cameras at the Mass Ave Bridge and Longfellow approaches show the crowd line.
Longfellow Bridge Views
Live Cameras
The eastern bookend of the barge zone. Camera coverage from the Boston and Cambridge approaches shows pedestrian flow toward Charles/MGH and Kendall.
Mass Ave Bridge and BU Bridge
Live Cameras
The western bookend. Mass Ave Bridge approaches (Boston University and Back Bay sides) plus the BU Bridge corridor show the upriver crowd spillover.
Storrow Drive Corridor
Live Cameras
Storrow Drive westbound from Leverett Circle to Kenmore Square closes for the event. Cameras at the closure points show how the diversion ripples into Back Bay and the Bowker Overpass.
Cambridge Common and Harvard Bridge Approaches
Live Cameras
Secondary viewing on the Cambridge side, plus the approach grid through Kendall and MIT used by walkers heading toward Memorial Drive.
Open the Live Esplanade Fireworks Route
We pre-loaded the Esplanade, Memorial Drive, and bridge cameras into a single route so you can watch the Charles River from every angle as the crowd builds.
WATCH THE FIREWORKS ROUTE โThe Viewing Path, Bridge to Bridge
The barge sits in the river between two bridges. The walkable viewing path traces the same arc on both banks: down the Esplanade on the Boston side, across the Longfellow, along Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side, and back across the Mass Ave Bridge.
Charles River Esplanade, Bridge to Bridge Loop
- Hatch Shell Oval — Esplanade core, Boston Pops concert and direct fireworks view
- Longfellow Bridge — Eastern bookend, Charles/MGH Red Line access
- Memorial Drive, Cambridge — Closed to vehicles, continuous pedestrian viewing
- Mass Ave Bridge — Western bookend, BU and Back Bay access
- BU Bridge corridor — Upriver overflow, less dense crowds
The cameras refresh as still images every few seconds rather than streaming full motion, so the experience is closer to a rapid photo sequence than a TV broadcast, but it lets you watch any specific block the moment crowds shift. Switch to grid view to keep every camera on screen at once, or use favorites to pin the Hatch Shell, Memorial Drive, and Mass Ave Bridge cameras for fast switching during the show.
Road Closures and Getting Around
Expect heavy closures across the Esplanade corridor from early afternoon. Storrow Drive westbound from Leverett Circle to Kenmore Square (Bowker Overpass) closes to vehicular traffic, Storrow eastbound is detoured at the Bowker Overpass, and Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side closes between the Longfellow and BU Bridges for pedestrian viewing.
Driving anywhere near the Esplanade on July 4 is impractical. Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive both close for the event, and on-street parking around Back Bay, Beacon Hill, and Kendall fills hours before showtime. The MBTA is the only reliable way in. Cross-reference our cameras with MassDOT traveler information and Boston Police advisories for live closure updates, since road closures expand as crowds grow.
The simplest MBTA approaches: Red Line to Charles/MGH for the eastern Esplanade and Longfellow Bridge, Red Line to Kendall/MIT for Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side, Green Line to Arlington or Hynes for the Hatch Shell Oval entry queues, and Red Line to Park Street with a walk over Beacon Hill for the central Esplanade. Public access to the Oval lawn opens at noon, and lines for security screening start building well before that.
Pro Tip: Scout Crowd Density Before You Commit
Use the Memorial Drive and Mass Ave Bridge cameras to check how packed each section is before you choose a viewing spot. The Esplanade Oval fills first because of the concert, then the Memorial Drive pedestrian zone, then the bridges. If everything south of the river looks full, the Cambridge side typically has room well into the evening.

BUILD YOUR ROUTE โA Half-Century on the Charles
The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular hits its 52nd year in 2026, making it one of the longest-running 4th of July traditions in the country and the largest single gathering on the Charles River each year. The combination of a live Boston Pops concert at the Hatch Shell, a drone show choreographed to the 1812 Overture, and a fireworks finale launched from the river itself has anchored the holiday in Boston since the 1970s.
Boston event weekends produce the same spectacle traffic patterns we cover for the Boston Marathon, and the Charles River corridor sees year-round coverage in our Boston traffic cameras guide and the Cambridge cameras guide across the river. On the same holiday, New York's Macy's 4th of July fireworks light up the East River through a near-identical bridge-to-bridge camera pattern. For the broader approach, our guide to watching major events through traffic cameras walks through how to assemble a route for any concert or parade.
When are the Boston Pops fireworks in 2026?
Saturday, July 4, 2026. The Boston Pops concert and fireworks display run from 7:00 to 9:30 PM ET at the DCR Hatch Memorial Shell on the Charles River Esplanade, with the fireworks finale launched from a barge in the river. Public access to the Oval lawn opens at 12:00 PM.
Can I watch the Boston 4th of July fireworks live through TrafficVision.Live cameras?
Yes. We built a live route along the Charles River Esplanade with MassDOT and regional camera feeds at the Hatch Shell, Storrow Drive, Memorial Drive (Cambridge side), Longfellow Bridge, and Mass Ave Bridge approaches. Open the route to watch the river and the crowd build through the evening.
