FedExForum is the downtown Memphis home of the Grizzlies and the University of Memphis Tigers basketball program, opened in 2004 and owned by the City of Memphis. For transit, the MATA Main Street Trolley (the operating heritage streetcar line) has a Beale Street stop that drops riders right in the district, and MATA buses serve downtown. Parking centers on the arena's attached garage, with about 1,500 spaces and entrances on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue; it is sold on a season basis for Grizzlies and Tigers games and first-come for other events, with many downtown lots nearby. Because the drop-off and garage entrances sit inside the Beale Street core, event egress mixes with district traffic on Fourth Street and B.B. King Boulevard.

Two Basketball Tenants and Beale Street

FedExForum is busy because it has two basketball tenants whose seasons overlap. The Grizzlies play their NBA schedule and the Memphis Tigers play their college schedule, both from late fall into spring, so basketball event nights are frequent from November through April.
