The Orange County Convention Center opened on February 26, 1983, and expanded across five phases through 2003 to become the second-largest convention center in the United States, after McCormick Place in Chicago (Wikipedia). It's owned and operated by Orange County Government, and its campus sits along International Drive, Orlando's tourism and convention corridor, with buildings fronting both International Drive and Universal Boulevard.

Approach Corridors to the Convention Center

No Rail, But a Dedicated Trolley and Bus Network

Unlike most major US convention centers, no rail transit serves the Orange County Convention Center or International Drive at all. In its place, the I-Ride Trolley runs an 11-mile route along the I-Drive resort corridor with roughly 100 stops, operating daily from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Red and Green lines that both stop directly at the West and North/South buildings (Orange County Florida). Lynx, the regional bus operator, serves the Convention Center with Links 8, 38, 42, 111, and 350, plus a NeighborLink 641 stop at the Convention Center/Destination Parkway SuperStop. A newer Link 311, added in April 2024, runs every 30 minutes between Orlando International Airport and the Disney Springs Transfer Center by way of the Convention Center, for a $2.00 fare (GoLynx).

IAAPA Expo: The Theme Park Industry's Biggest Show

IAAPA Expo is the marquee annual event, run by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. The 2025 edition (November 17-21) drew 38,520 verified attendees and 43,840 total registrants, with 28,598 qualified buyers from more than 20,000 buying companies across 102 countries, filling more than 565,000 square feet of exhibit floor with over 1,100 exhibitors (IAAPA). "IAAPA Expo continues to grow not only in scale, but in global impact," said Jakob Wahl, IAAPA's President and CEO. For the 2025 show, the Convention Center coordinated with Lyft and Uber to set up three designated pickup and drop-off zones by campus location, plus a dedicated taxi stand out front. The 2026 edition runs November 16-20.

Beyond IAAPA, the Convention Center's calendar includes MegaCon Orlando, a comics and pop-culture convention held every February or March (2026 edition: March 19-22), the PGA Show, and a rotating slate of trade shows that together draw an estimated 1.5 million attendees a year across all events at the venue (Wikipedia).

Parking

Parking at the Convention Center is cashless, and the venue's own guidance says rates vary by vehicle size, entry time, and the specific event, rather than a single posted rate (Orange County Convention Center). Individual show guides have historically cited roughly $20 plus tax for a standard vehicle and $40 plus tax for an oversized vehicle, with a reduced rate at the Destination Parkway garage, but check your specific show's exhibitor guide for the confirmed current rate before you go.

Getting There by Air

Orlando International Airport (MCO) sits about 13 miles from the Convention Center, roughly a 20-25 minute drive depending on traffic. The most direct route takes SR-528 west to Exit 1 for International Drive, then about a mile north to the campus.
