Live Cams Around Soldier Field

VIEW SOLDIER FIELD LIVE CAMS →Soldier Field opened on 9 October 1924 and has been the Bears' home since 1971. It sits on Chicago's lakefront Museum Campus, sharing a constrained strip of land with the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium — which means parking supply is jointly allocated and museum activity helps set what's available on a Bears Sunday.
It is also the only stadium in America to have lost National Historic Landmark status. Designated on 27 February 1987, it was stripped of the designation on 17 February 2006 after a federal advisory committee unanimously recommended delisting: the 2003 reconstruction dropped a modern seating bowl inside the original 1924 colonnades, and the result was judged to have destroyed what made the building historic.

Approach Corridors to Soldier Field
Lake Shore Drive (US-41)
The primary approach cams
Every published route converges on the 18th Drive exit off Lake Shore Drive. LSD flows early, backs up near kickoff, and backs up again post-game.
I-55 → Lake Shore Drive
Southwestern approach cams
The route from the southwest suburbs. I-55 feeds directly onto LSD and then the 18th Dr exit.
I-90/94 Dan Ryan
Southern approach cams
Dan Ryan to LSD via 22nd Street, then LSD north to 18th Dr.
I-290 Eisenhower → Columbus
Western approach cams
I-290 to Congress, then Columbus southbound to 18th Dr. Note Ida B. Wells Drive (formerly Congress) closes east of Michigan on game days.
Parking: Season-Coupon Only
This is the detail that catches people out. North Garage, South Lot, and Waldron Deck are season-coupon only on Bears days — and they don't take cash.
If you're not a season parker:
- Cash parkers → Adler Lot or Burnham Harbor
- Everyone else → McCormick Place Lot B plus the free shuttle, which drops at 18th Street just west of LSD and runs until 2 hours post-game
Lots open roughly 4 hours before kickoff and close 1 hour after night events. Gates open 2 hours before; Will Call opens 30 minutes before gates. Oversized vehicles are $160 cash / $165 prepaid; buses $85 / $90.
Rideshare drop-off and pickup are in different places — a genuinely easy mistake to make:
- Drop-off → 18th Dr turnaround, west of the exit ramp
- Pickup → Columbus and Balbo, north of the stadium
ADA drop-off is at Gate 14 on Museum Campus Drive, east side. Limos are banned from 90 minutes after kickoff through 1 hour post-game.

VIEW LIVE CAMS →Closures and Recommended Routes
The Bears' own traffic advisory names two closures: Ida B. Wells Drive closed east of Michigan, and intermittent closures on Jackson east of Michigan.
Their recommended approaches: Monroe east to LSD if you're coming from the north, and Michigan south to Balbo — explicitly avoiding Roosevelt.
The structural problem is the Museum Campus itself. It's a narrow lakefront strip with limited ingress and egress, and when multiple campus events overlap — a Bears game plus a busy museum Saturday — the constraint compounds.
Transit
- CTA Red, Green, and Orange at Roosevelt — a 0.75-mile walk
- CTA #128 Soldier Field Express — nonstop from Ogilvie and Union stations, $5
- CTA #146
- CTA #130 — Memorial Day through Labor Day only
- Metra — 18th St and Museum Campus/11th St
- Pace suburban express
The #128 Express is the underrated option if you're arriving by Metra or Amtrak into Ogilvie or Union.

BUILD YOUR ROUTE →The Stadium Question
The Bears have been trying to leave Soldier Field for years, and the story has moved. They bought Arlington Park for $197.2 million in 2023, but the project stalled in November 2025 over $826 million in infrastructure funding. In December 2025 team president Kevin Warren expanded the search to northwest Indiana. Illinois House Bill 910 passed in April 2026, but the Bears said further amendments were needed.
Then on 5 June 2026, the Bears board voted to advance a stadium project in Hammond, Indiana — not Arlington Heights. The site remains formally TBD and Illinois talks continue, but the direction of travel has changed.
For now, the Bears rent Soldier Field from the Chicago Park District, and Lake Shore Drive is still the road you take.
Weather and Season Timing
Bears home games run September through January, and the lakefront location makes Soldier Field genuinely brutal in December — wind off Lake Michigan, no roof, and an exposed walk from any of the lots. Winter conditions cut the effective capacity of Lake Shore Drive substantially, and LSD closes outright in severe lake-effect events.
The live camera feeds show current road-surface conditions in real time.
Coverage Across Chicago and Illinois
For broader coverage, our Chicago traffic cameras guide covers the metropolitan network and the Illinois traffic cameras guide covers the wider IDOT camera set. If you're flying in, the O'Hare airport traffic cameras guide covers the I-90 approach. For Chicago's other iconic venue, see Wrigley Field live cameras. For comparable NFL venues, see Lambeau Field live cameras — the Bears' oldest rival, and the stadium whose continuous-use record Soldier Field's 2002-03 closure helped Lambeau keep.

Can I park at Soldier Field on a Bears game day?
Only with a season coupon for the main lots. North Garage, South Lot, and Waldron Deck are season-coupon only on Bears days and do not accept cash. Cash parkers are directed to the Adler Lot or Burnham Harbor. Everyone else is directed to McCormick Place Lot B, which has a free shuttle dropping at 18th Street just west of Lake Shore Drive and running until 2 hours post-game. Lots open about 4 hours before kickoff. Oversized vehicles are $160 cash / $165 prepaid.
Where is rideshare pickup at Soldier Field?
Drop-off and pickup are in different places, which catches people out. Drop-off is at the 18th Drive turnaround, west of the exit ramp. Pickup is at Columbus and Balbo, north of the stadium. ADA drop-off is at Gate 14 on Museum Campus Drive, east side. Limos are banned from 90 minutes after kickoff through 1 hour post-game.
Is Soldier Field a National Historic Landmark?
Not any more — and it's the only stadium in America to have lost the designation. Soldier Field was designated a National Historic Landmark on 27 February 1987 and stripped of it on 17 February 2006, after a federal advisory committee unanimously recommended delisting. The 2003 reconstruction dropped a modern seating bowl inside the original 1924 colonnades, and the result was judged to have destroyed what made the building historic.
