The Food City 500 weekend carries specific turn restrictions around the track (posted for the Thursday-Sunday window), including the Volunteer Parkway/Highway 394 left-turn ban and the Exide Drive closure noted above, plus a stretch of Sweet Knobs Trail that converts to one-way eastbound toward Vance Tank Road to manage campground and dragstrip-side flow. Local guidance for anyone not attending is direct: avoid the area around the speedway entirely for the full race weekend, not just at green-flag time.

Camping, Parking, and Access

Bristol Motor Speedway is a rural short track, and camping is a bigger part of the traffic story here than public transit. There is no rail or transit-agency service to the speedway; access is by car, and race weekend runs on the facility's own named campgrounds rather than a single generic parking lot:

Event-Type Notes

Bristol's traffic pattern doesn't vary much by series. The same road network and the same turn restrictions apply whether it's a Cup weekend, the Xfinity Food City 300, or the Truck Series race supporting either weekend, since all three series run on the same triple-header schedule. The one structural difference: the Night Race weekend draws the largest crowd of the year by a wide margin, so plan for the heaviest congestion on that date specifically.

Weather Note

Bristol Motor Speedway's Cup Series races run rain or shine on a concrete surface that dries faster than asphalt, but a wet forecast can still push start times later in the day, which shifts arrival and departure traffic later as well.
