The Los Angeles Convention Center opened in 1971 and expanded in 1981, 1993, and 1997, reaching over 720,000 square feet of exhibition space across its South Hall (Tom Bradley Hall, 347,000 sq ft) and West Hall (Sam Yorty Hall, 210,000 sq ft) (Wikipedia). It's owned by the City of Los Angeles and operated by Legends, formerly ASM Global.

A $2.62 billion expansion is underway now, approved by the LA City Council and connecting the South and West Halls into one contiguous 750,000-plus-square-foot hall, plus 55,000 square feet of new meeting space, ahead of the 2028 Olympics (Skift Meetings). The project is targeting substantial completion by March 31, 2028, when LA28 takes exclusive access through August for Olympic and Paralympic events including fencing, taekwondo, judo, wrestling, and table tennis, with full project completion targeted for May 2029.

Anime Expo: One of North America's Biggest Conventions

Anime Expo, held every July, set a new attendance record in 2025 with more than 410,000 attendees from over 65 countries across four days and 1,300-plus hours of programming, generating an estimated $110 million in economic impact for Los Angeles (Anime News Network). The 2025 show expanded beyond the Convention Center itself into the adjacent Peacock Theater and Peacock Place, with associated street closures on Pico Boulevard and southbound Figueroa Street during the event.

The LA Auto Show is the venue's other major public event, with 2025 public days running November 21-30 (including Thanksgiving Day) and an industry preview day, AutoMobility LA, on November 20.

Getting There by Metro

Pico Station, served by the A Line and E Line, sits about an 8-minute walk from the Convention Center. 7th St/Metro Center, a larger transfer hub serving the A, E, B, and D Lines, is a 10-15 minute walk, and LATTC/Ortho Institute station on the E Line is roughly 10-12 minutes away (LA Convention Center). Metro Bus lines 30, 81, 442, and 460, plus the Silver Line and DASH Route F, also serve the venue directly.

Parking

Three on-site garages serve the Convention Center: South Hall Garage, West Hall Garage, and Venice Garage, distinct from the shared 3,300-space L.A. Live structure that also serves Crypto.com Arena. Rates run a flat $30-40 depending on the event and location, cards only, with 24 Level 2 EV charging stations split between the West and South Hall garages (LA Convention Center parking). Note that the West Hall Garage entrance is currently accessible only via L.A. Live Way due to construction.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) sits roughly 15-17 miles from the Convention Center, typically reached via I-105 to I-110 north.
