Boston Convention & Exhibition Center Live Cameras: Seaport Traffic

The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center opened in June 2004 on Boston's Seaport waterfront, designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects with Boston's HNTB Companies, at a construction cost of roughly $850 million (Wikipedia). It's owned and operated by the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. In 2025 the Massachusetts Legislature officially renamed the building the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center, but "BCEC" remains the name in near-universal use across event listings and press coverage, so this guide uses both.

Approach Corridors to the BCEC

PAX East and the Rest of the Calendar

PAX East is the BCEC's biggest recurring public event, drawing more than 100,000 attendees to its 2025 edition; the 2026 show runs March 26-29 (FanCons; GamesPress). Beyond PAX East, the BCEC hosts the Boston Auto Show, described as one of the largest automotive exhibitions in North America, the BIO International Convention (hosted here in 2024), and Fan Expo Boston, an annual pop-culture convention.

Boston's baseline traffic is already among the worst in the country: INRIX's 2025 data ranks Boston the 5th-most congested city in the US and 12th worldwide, with the average driver losing 83 hours a year and the city losing an estimated $2.9 billion to congestion overall (Boston Globe). "We must establish frequent and reliable service across our subway, buses, commuter rail, and ferries to entice more drivers out of their cars," said Kate Dineen of A Better City. The I-93 southbound corridor specifically, the route many BCEC visitors from north of the city use, ranks 8th-busiest nationally, with drivers losing 81 hours a year on it. A major show at the BCEC layers directly onto that baseline.

Getting There Without a Car

The Silver Line's SL1 and SL2 routes stop at the underground World Trade Center station, directly across from the BCEC, running daily from 6:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. (Signature Boston). SL1 runs free of charge from Logan Airport, making this one of the few convention centers in the country with a genuinely fast, free transit link to its nearest airport, roughly an 8-minute taxi ride or a few Silver Line stops away. The MBTA's Harbor Loop Ferry also connects Commonwealth Pier in the Seaport to Lovejoy Wharf, Central Wharf, and Logan Airport, a short walk from the World Trade Center station.

Parking

The BCEC's own South Lot holds 1,300 spaces on a first-come-first-served basis, accessed from Summer Street via East Side Drive, at $35 for a regular vehicle and $70 for an oversized one (MCCA). When the South Lot fills, attendees may be directed to nearby Seaport-area garages, though no single named overflow facility is consistently published.
