Ohio Stadium opened on 7 October 1922, cost $1.34 million to build, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in March 1974. Capacity is 102,780; the record crowd of 110,045 came in the 2016 Michigan game, a 30-27 double-overtime Buckeyes win.

Beyond Buckeyes football, The Shoe hosts Spring Commencement every May, concerts, soccer, NHL Stadium Series outdoor hockey, and high-school championships. It housed OSU track and field from 1923 to 2001 and the Columbus Crew's MLS debut seasons from 1996 to 1998.

Game-Day Closures and Campus Access

Woody Hayes Drive shuts between Tuttle Park Place and Cannon Drive on game days. West Stadium and South Fieldhouse permit holders enter via Cannon Drive or the West Campus routes instead.

Ohio State's own guidance: motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and follow the directions of traffic control officers in the area.

Two shuttle-related details matter more than they sound:

  • A free football shuttle runs between the Mount Hall loop on west campus (near Lane Avenue and Carmack Road) and the Herrick Drive Transit Hub (off Herrick Drive, south of Ohio Stadium and west of the Neil Avenue Garage) โ€” from six hours before kickoff until 90 minutes after the game.
  • CABS (the campus bus system) is suspended from six hours before kickoff until two hours after the game ends, including paratransit and on-demand service. If you normally rely on CABS to move around campus, it is not running on a football Saturday.

Approach Corridors to Ohio Stadium

I-315

The primary approach cams

Ohio State's own directions route drivers off I-315 at Medical Center Drive, then left onto Cannon Drive for the West Stadium Lot. This is the main artery for west-side stadium parking.

High Street at Woodruff Avenue

East-side approach cams

The route to east-side lots and the campus core. High Street is the spine of the OSU campus district and carries the bar-and-restaurant crowd on top of game traffic.

I-71 and I-670

Strategic Columbus approach cams

The connections from downtown Columbus, the airport, and the wider region into the campus area.

Lane Avenue and Cannon Drive

Campus approach cams

Lane Avenue serves the north campus lots and the Lane Avenue Garage (the accessible-parking location). Cannon Drive is the West Stadium Lot entrance.

Day-of-game parking is first-come, first-served, including disability parking. Pricing tiers:

Transit: Central Ohio Transit Authority

The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) runs Lines 1, 2, 8, 22, 31, and 102 to campus, at every 15 to 30 minutes on game days. Fares are $2 adult, $1 for under-12s, free for under-5s, and free for OSU students with a BuckID. Their game-day campaign name is, inevitably, "Bus it to the Buckeyes."

A note for anyone searching: Columbus's transit authority shares an abbreviation with Circuit of the Americas, the F1 track in Austin. If you landed here looking for the racing venue, that's Circuit of the Americas live cameras.

Where Ohio State Won the Title

Worth being precise, since it gets conflated: Ohio State won the 2024-season national championship on 20 January 2025, beating Notre Dame 34-23 โ€” but that game was at the Superdome in New Orleans, not at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes did host a first-round Playoff game on campus against Tennessee in December 2024, which is a genuine Ohio Stadium event.

For the venue that hosted the title game, see Caesars Superdome live cameras.

Weather and Season Timing

Ohio State's home season runs September through late November, closing traditionally against Michigan. Early-season games play in warm, humid Columbus conditions; The Game in late November regularly plays in cold, wind, and occasional snow. The Shoe is an open horseshoe with no roof.

Winter conditions on I-315 and I-71 reduce effective capacity substantially, and the campus street grid gets slick fast. The live camera feeds show current road-surface conditions in real time.
